FRED SIVERLY
Fred Siverly, youngest son of Fred and Dorothy (Brandt) Siverly, was born on December 14, 1927 at his family’s home located five miles southeast of Clearfield, Iowa. He was welcomed into the family by four sisters and one brother. Fred spent his childhood hunting, fishing and trapping in the timber surrounding his home.
Fred attended Grant Center #5 Country School through the 8th grade. He graduated from Clearfield High School in 1945. Shortly after high school, Fred served his country by joining the U.S. Army. While still in the Army, he married Virginia Keenan on March 7, 1947. To this union three children were born: Nancy Jean, Monica Sue and Kenneth Lee. A niece, Martha Lou Bennett, joined the family in 1962.
Fred enjoyed his life’s work of farming and soil conservation. He built many ponds, terraces, and installed farm drainage systems across several counties in southern Iowa. The single most important thing in life to Fred was his family…his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and his other extended family members. He loved working side by side with his sons-in-law and grandsons.
Being part of the Clearfield community was important to Fred. He was a member of the American Legion Post 97, Clearfield Methodist Church and Clearfield Lions Club. Over the years he served on the Cemetery Board and the Clearfield School Board. He also served on the Methodist Church Building Committee and helped construct the new church in 1987.
Fred passed away on August 23, 2019 at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; Fred and Dorothy Siverly, siblings and their spouses; Winnifred (Orville) Frus, Belle Bennett, Ethel (Paul) Graham, Joan (Arlo) Beggs, L.L.
