Mount Ayr 3, Murray 1
The Raiderettes traveled to Murray on Monday night and came home with a win after four sets.
“We struggled getting things rolling there in that first game,” said coach Braby. “I asked the girls if they were happy with that, then they came out ready to play in the second.”
The first set was a close one with Mount Ayr winning 25-23.
They came out on top in the second set 25-12 before falling in the third, 25-20, to head into set four.
“It is just that rollercoaster we have been riding on this year,” said Braby. “In the third match the wheels fell off and we got lazy, allowing the Mustangs to take that win. After that game, I pulled all the girls in the huddle and said there is no way we are going to give games to these guys. We finally came out and played hard and put them away easy.”
In set four, the Raiderettes took the control and the Lady Mustangs fell 25-7.
Throughout the match, multiple girls stepped up to the net to score, but it was Sam Stewart behind the serving line that was impressive.
Stewart went 27-of-27 behind the line with four aces, while having four kills and 20 digs on the night.
Channler Henle led the team in aces, however, with five after having a back-to-back-to-back string of aces in her 10-of-15 serves at the line.
Henle also led the team in kills, with 15 total, while also having 10 digs.
Jaycee Knight, coming back from a hip injury, shared time with freshman Kaylie Shields, but still managed 21 assists, one dig and one kill on the night, while Shields had 12 assists and was 11-of-12 serving with one ace.
The girls, who had fallen to 10-11 on the season, climbed back to .500 with the win over Murray.

“I felt we did lots of spurts of positive play. We still need to continue on working together as a team and staying positive throughout the game,” said coach Tori Braby. “When we communicate and work together we look real good on the floor. Lots of nice volleys tonight just couldn’t seem to finish.”
