Panorama 14, MA 6
In the battle of the undefeated between the Mount Ayr Raiders and Panorama Panthers, the Raiders suffered their first loss of the season, falling 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the district.
The Raiders had a hand in defeating themselves, however, with six turnovers including three interceptions and three lost fumbles (five fumbles total), while Panorama had four fumbles, but lost two that Mount Ayr could not capitalize on.
Despite the six Raider turnovers, the Panthers only scored one offensive touchdown. With 47 seconds left in the first half, Luke South ran it in from two yards out. The PAT was good to bring their lead 7-0.
The Raiders gave up the ball on their next drive as time expired.
To begin the second half, the Panthers received the ball and took the kick 86 yards to the house for their last score of the night.
The Raiders were able to get on the board on a seven yard Payton Weehler quarterback keeper to start off the fourth quarter, but the two-point conversion attempt fell incomplete leaving them at six on the board.
Neither team produced much offense after that and the clock ranout with Mount Ayr down and Panorama staying undefeated at 6-0.
“When you have five turnovers it’s hard to win games,” said co-head coach Derek Lambert. “
The Raiders will travel to Clarinda this Friday in an attempt to get back in the win column and ready themselves for another district matchup against Van Meter on October 18.
