The Bedford and Mount Ayr school boards are asking patrons for their input on the search for a new superintendent to be shared between the two districts.
Current shared superintendent Joe Drake has announced his retirement at the end of the current school year.
To solicit public input, the boards have included a survey inserted in this week’s Record-News.
The survey asks patrons to share narrative insights and rank personal and professional priorities they would prefer in a new superintendent.
Survey submissions are anonymous unless participants choose to provide their name voluntarily.
The survey is also available online at https://forms.gle/f56w88nMtN7cGd6W8
Deadline to complete the survey is Sunday, November 10.
Once survey results are compiled, the joint search team will produce a general report that will be shared with the school boards to guide them on what priorities the district and community stakeholders are looking for in a new leader.
The school boards have set a time line to hire a new superintendent:
Nov. 10 – Patron survey completed
Nov. 22 – Dec. 31 – Application period
Jan. 8 – board reviews applicant pool in closed session
Jan. 22 – board screens candidates in closed session
Feb. 6 – formal interviews with finalists
The search will conclude when both school boards reach consensus on the hiring of a new superintendent.
