To the editor:
The upcoming city election is important to vote for not only to decide the mayor and city council for the next 4 years but it is also important to decide who you put in charge of your city’s resources. I write this because in the past 8 years the Town of Benton has done little to nothing to fix the failing infrastructure on the ditches, culverts, sidewalks, and roads. The current mayor and council members recently spent $30,000 for a poor asphalt patch and seal coat job by I.G. Construction. I had asked about when was there a meeting held to approve this company to do this work. My answer was that they held “a special meeting in which all the council members were called”. I know back door politics when I see it. I asked the city clerk about it and she said “we got a good deal on the project” that we couldn’t turn it down. I asked my boss to come and look at the work this company had done. Turns out they only did about $3,000 worth of work. I am asking the people of Benton to vote for people who have experience in spending money wisely and not to vote for ANY of the current persons in office. That is why I want to be on the town council again to try and right the ship once again.
Thank You,
Richard A Swank
