Mt. Ayr 78, Clarke 47
Monday night the Raiderettes traveled to Osceola to face the Clarke Lady Indians.
Coming off a loss to Red Oak, Mount Ayr looked to get into the win column.
Sam Stewart led the Raiderettes at the bucket, despite an ankle sprain during the Red Oak game, and looked quick and precise during her run of 27 points. Stewart shot 50 percent from the field and was two-of-five at the line. Stewart also led the team in assists with six and steals with six, while as a team the Raiderettes stole the ball 20 times.
After the game, however, Stewart was icing that ankle, but all assumptions lead to her being ready to go in their next contest Friday night against Southwest Valley.
Channler Henle also had a great night at the hoop, scoring 21 points, hitting eight-of-17 buckets, two of which were threes.
Alexa Anderson came in for Rachel Sobotka in the second quarter after Sobotka had a nasty fall. Anderson would go on to score eight while rebounding a team high six points and account for two steals.
Sobotka came back onto the court in the second half and scored seven points, had four rebounds and stole the ball twice.
Coach Thad Streit was overall pleased with the performance of the Raiderettes, saying they took a huge step forward.
“I thought our offense was clicking really well,” said Streit. “We passed the ball well, we had good ball movement and made some great unselfish passes. I thought our defense was good in spurts, we had a lapse in the second quarter, but overall we took a huge step forward tonight.”
Mount Ayr has their home opener on Friday, December 6 at 6 p.m. against Southwest Valley.
