Many county groups and organizations have announced planned for special holiday events.
Holiday Lights in the Park
Ringgold County Conservation and the Ringgold Conservation Foundation are holding their Holiday Lights in the Park event at Poe Hollow Park.
Final dates for the event are December 13 and 14 from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. each night.
The entry fee for this event is $5 per car for each drive through Poe Hollow Park, where visitors will marvel at the lighted displays in a winter wonderland.
The Dragoon Trace Nature Center will be open during the lighted park, so make sure to swing in for a visit and vote for your favorite displays.

Toys for Tots
The annual Toys for Tots drive will run from November 27 through December 16. Boxes for donations of new or gently used toys are located at Community Grocers, Dollar General, Great Western Bank, Hy-Vee, Mount Ayr Record-News, PCSB Bank, and Ringgold County Senior Citizens Activity Center.
Little Red Wagon
A drawing to give away a little red wagon to a child under age 10 will be held Tuesday, December 24.
The winner need not be present.
Sign up boxes are located at CGI, Hy-Vee, and United Farmers Cooperative.
Letters to Santa
Kids are invited to write a letter to Santa Claus.
Letter forms may be picked up at the post office.
Envelopes should include a return address if the kids want Santa to write back. No postage is necessary.
Kids should also remind Santa if they are a boy or a girl.
Adopt-a-Child
Ringgold County MATURA has announced its annual Adopt-a-Child for Christmas program.
According to Ronnel Schlapia, director of Ringgold County MATURA, this year the program has 46 families with a total of 121 kids/teens to be adopted.
Anyone who is interested in making a difference for these kids’ Christmas this year should stop by Ringgold County MATURA (Neighborhoold Center) at 306 S. Garfield in Mount Ayr.
A list of families has been printed for those willing to help so they may pick out a family they feel they can help.
Adopt-a-Critter
Animal Alliance Rescue in Mount Ayr is sponsoring an Adopt-a-Critter campaign from December 3 through December 23.
A Christmas tree decorated with animal cards is on display at Community Grocers. Those wishing to donate may choose a card from the tree. They then buy that animal a gift, wrap it, and deliver it to Animal Alliance or Community Grocers.
Santa sightings
The United Farmers Country Store will host Santa on Saturday, December 14 from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Kids are invited to bring their pets for pictures with Santa.
Christmas cookies and pet food samples will be available.
Free gift wrapping is offered upon request.
Church services
Several Christmas church services have already been announced with more surely to be added to the list in the coming days.
The Redding United Methodist Church will hold a candlelight service on Sunday, December 22 at 7 p.m.
The Tingley Christian Church will hold a candlelight service at 5:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
On Tuesday, December 24, the United Church of Diagonal will hold its Christmas Eve service at 6 p.m.
The Shannon City Community Church will hold a candlelight service Christmas Eve at 7 p.m.
The Middle Fork United Methodist Church will hold its candlelight service Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24 at 7 p.m.
The Mount Ayr United Methodist Church will hold its candlelight service also on Christmas Eve at 11 p.m.
