Mt. Ayr 68, Wayne 50
In the final game of 2019, the Raiderettes defeated the Wayne Lady Falcons 68-50 to improve to 4-1 on the season heading into winter break.
Wayne capitalized on Mount Ayr mistakes early on, scoring 10 of their 12 points in the first quarter, from the free throw line.
The Raiderettes cleaned things up in the second quarter to outscore the Lady Falcons 19-5 to head into halftime ahead 32-17.
Wayne stayed with Mount Ayr throughout the second half, outscoring the Raiderettes 17-16 in the third, but falling behind again in the fourth with Mount Ayr ultimately winning 68-50.
MaKayla Jones recorded four steals on defense and ha five assists in the win, while also snagging two offensive rebounds.
Channler Henle, scoring 11 points, had two defensive rebounds as well as four steals and five assists on the night while
Sam Stewart led the team in points, with 26, hitting 12-of-19 buckets and going two-of-four at the line.
The Raiderettes have been unselfish with the ball this season, with this game a great example. Mount Ayr had 24 total assists, with eight girls in on the action.
The Raiderettes were 27-of-65 at the hoop, while struggling to hit from beyond the arc, going two-of-10 for threes.
“We are playing with a lot of energy and playing hard,” said coach Thad Streit. “Our intensity is creating a lot of turnovers. This was a great game for us right before Christmas break.”
The Raiderettes are off until January 3, when they will host the Worth County Tigers at 6 p.m.
