Channler Henle knocks the ball free against a Worth County Tiger Friday night. Henle scored nine points and had seven assists to help the Raiderettes overcome the Tigers. Henle had eight points and five assists in the close loss to Panorama Saturday.
Mt. Ayr 68, WC 51
The Raiderettes hosted our neighbors to the south from Worth County last Friday in what has been named the “Battle of the Border”. Mount Ayr and Worth County squared off in a tight contest throughout the night, with Mount Ayr holding a slight advantage throughout.
Early in the contest, Mount Ayr’s Sam Stewart saw two early fouls and was taken out as insurance if the game was out of hand. The senior standout didn’t see action for 12 minutes, but came out in the second half to lead the team to victory, scoring 29 points in total along with a team high three steals.
Junior Channler Henle scored nine points in the victory and led the team in assists with seven.
Early on, rebounds were a point of weakness for Mount Ayr, but the girls snagged 39 boards against the Tigers, led by Rachel Sobotka who had 14 along with 14 points, the second highest on the team.
“I thought we were up for this challenge tonight,” said coach Thad Streit. “Worth County has a pretty darn good team and our girls were ready to go. I thought our defense and rebounding was outstanding. We were fun to watch tonight.”
The girls would turnaround and head to Panora on Saturday to face the Panorama Panthers.

Panora 56, Mt. Ayr 53
The Raiderettes traveled to Panora for a battle with the Panorama Panthers.
The game was neck and neck after the first quarter, with Panorama leading 12-11, however, the Raiderettes took the lead, 22-19, heading into halftime.
By the end of the fourth, the two teams were tied and overtime would ensue.
Panora had a three point lead by the end of the overtime period to give Mount Ayr its second loss of the year.
Sam Stewart once again led the Raiderettes with 23 points and three steals.
Jaycee Knight had 12 points to help elevate the Raideretttes along with a team high seven rebounds.
Channler Henle once again led the assist category with five total while also snagging six boards in the game, five of which were defensive.
“We could make all the excuses in the world tonight,” said coach Streit. “But we just were not very sharp. We had very silly turnovers and missed a ton of bunnies, but yet had a chance at the end of the game. We played hard, but just didn’t play smart and didn’t execute. I need to get us calmed down and in better sports to execute our offense. I have a great feeling we will bounce back from this.”
