Mt. Ayr 67, NV 54
Mount Ayr traveled to Greenfield last week to take on the Nodaway Valley Wolverines.
“Coming to this place every year, it’s a tough place to play,” said coach Bret Ruggles. “They have state championships, state appearances, I think I may be the winningest coach against them with seven.”
The Raiders put on a good showing, leading throughout the game with Isaac Grose, Dawson Frost and Payton Weehler leading the charge for the Raiders in the scoring division. Grose and Frost each had 15 points while Weehler saw 13.
Along with his 15 points, Frost also had three of the Raiders six blocks against their Wolverine opponents.
The Wolverines had a tough time scoring against Mount Ayr, not scoring for a six minute stretch at one point.
“That normally doesn’t happen,” said coach Ruggles. “I thought we needed to be a little more aggressive in the lane.”
The Raiders won the freethrow battle as well, good on 15-of-19 on the night.
The Raiders improved to 8-0 on the season, and missed their game against Bedford due to weather, which has been rescheduled for February 11 and will be played in Mount Ayr.
