What is Pickleball you ask? Pickleball is a mix between tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It is one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S. According to the USA Pickleball Association, the sport has grown 650% in interest and numbers in the past 6 years. It’s such a fun, fast sport that doesn’t require a lot of experience or expertise to play. It is social, strategic, and is a good way of participating in a fun activity individually or as a whole family.
An AmeriCorps Outreach Grant provided funds for Pickleball to be held at the Kellerton gym facility on Tuesday evenings for youth ages 3-18. Youth and families from the Kellerton, Mount Ayr, and Lamoni areas as well as adult volunteers are invited to attend. The purpose of this activity is to promote an active / healthy lifestyle and build community with children & youth.
The first night was held on January 28th with 10 people (4 youth) in attendance. The second week jumped to 23 people (10 youth). Please come and join us at the Kellerton gym every Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. We’re having a blast and you can too! Join the fun any Tuesday night now through April.
Local facilitators for the Pickleball games are Bryan and Kacey Courtney, Larry and Linda Phillips, and Joel and Deni Loving. For more details, contact Kacey Courtney at (515) 554-9079.
