Mt. Ayr 72, Bedford 65
The Raiders finished out their regular season with a victory over the Bedford Bulldogs.
Against Bedford, Cayden Lambert accounted for 19 points, shooting six-of-seven shots from the arc for 18, with the 19th point coming off a free throw.
“Cayden Lambert was fantastic tonight,” said coach Bret Ruggles. “He hit some tough shots tonight, found himself lost in the zone a couple times, but buried some really tough shots.”
Isaac Grose scored 15 to help the Raiders along with Jaixen Frost and Payton Weehler, each with 11 points.
Dawson Frost scored 9 points on the night and is now 11 points away from the school All-Time scoring record, which is currently held by Drew Larsen with a career total of 1,111 points. Frost also had three of the Raiders four blocks.
“The senior class has never been selfish in the terms of I want to get mine, they may want to put the team up on their back and help as much as they can. This team doesn’t really do it. Dawson Frost had some really good rebounds tonight and I was super happy with him,” said coach Ruggles. That’s where he was really good at tonight and I was super happy with him.”
The Raiders as a team, shot 43 percent from the field and snagged 35 rebounds, 24 of which were defensive.
The Raiders saw 18 fouls on the floor and created five turnovers.
The Raiders close out the season 18-2, their best finish since the 2011-2012 season in which they finished 20-3. Last year’s Raiders closed at 18-4.
“This is what districts is going to feel like. They hit a lot of big shots, we hit a lot of big shots. They got big stops, we got big stops,” said coach Bret Ruggles. “I just felt like all night long this is what it will feel like. I think it will be these guys one more time and it’s hard to beat a team three times in a row.”
The Raiders will see Clarinda Academy tonight at 8 p.m. following the conclusion of the Bedford and Diagonal game which begins at 6:30 p.m.
