The Mount Ayr wrestling team held it’s end of the year banquet on March 11, just before the COVID-19 pandemic shut everything down last week.
The banquet allows the coaches to award the wrestlers for their hardwork throughout the season and to honor the athletes and thank them.
This season, the wrestlers saw four compete at the State Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena after a 14-7 season for the team.
Drew and Trae Ehlen both finished seventh at the Wells Fargo while Jaydon Knight and Bryce Shaha each finished eighth.
Trae Ehlen and Bryce Shaha both joined the 100 pins club and Ehlen broke into the top 10 career falls leaders with 68 to reach 10th place on the list. Cal Daughton holds the record with 114.
At the banquet, Bryce Shaha and Trae Ehlen, captains this year, were reelected as captains for the coming 2020-21 wrestling season.
Ehlen also won most valuable wrestler, while his younger brother Drew Ehlen was awarded the spark plug award, given to the wrestler who “sparks” the team. Most improved wrestler went to Trey Fooken.
