Not above the law

To the editor:
Once again, the Supreme Court is faced with the question, “Is the President above the law?’  Or should the law apply equally to everyone?
While allowing that presidents cannot be treated like ordinary citizens, Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan stated that “it is fundamental Constitutional precept that the President is not above the law.”  The idea that everyone, including rulers, have to obey the law is a precept that can be traced back to the Magna Carta [Great Charter] in 1215,   England’s King John, a tyrannical unpopular ruler, was forced to sign this document which established the principle that no one is above the law.
The Magna Carta became one of the great documents of English constitutional development and  an integral part of American jurisprudence.
Once again, as the Manhattan District Attorney seeks Trump’s financial and tax records [records he should have turned over in 2016], we hear that he is above the law. If you believe in equality before the law and in our democratic system, you realize how dangerous this claim is.  History abounds with examples of tyrants like Hitler, Stalin, Saddam Hussein, Fidel Castro etc. who have claimed that they are the law and cannot be held accountable for their misdeeds.
Literature also abounds with these terrible examples of tyranny.  I think of the book “Animal Farm.”  In this book the animals overthrow the farmer and establish a new society based on the ideal that “all animals are equal.”   In the ideal society of equality, the pigs led by Napoleon gain power and then they are governed by a new rule, “all animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.”
I would hate to think that we now accept that “some Americans are more equal than others.”  Think about it and then read your Constitution.

    “Hitler” “Stalin” “Castro”

Yea, Hitler and Stalin were bad because they preferred to keep their tax returns private….
all that WWII stuff is beside the point.

Is any further proof needed of the total derangement of the anti Trump left?

So many good reasons to be anti Trump…..why does the left have to sink to these childish
    arguments?
