To the editor:
I am writing on behalf of Deputy Landon White, who is running for the Office of Sheriff for Ringgold County. I have personally known Landon since 1987, when I was in charge of the Marine Corps K-9 program at Lackland. One of my duties was to interview and select students to fill the billets for the entire Marine Corps K-9 program. I would post a notice for the next classes and ask those interested in becoming a K-9 handler to put their name in. I had eighteen (18) Marine students put in for it, one of those students was Landon White. I had three (3) school positions to fill and LCPL Landon White was selected 1st out of the eighteen (18).
I put Landon in patrol dog school and eventually explosive dog school, where I was his instructor. When I got out of the Marine Corps, Landon and I continued to keep in touch throughout our careers in law enforcement.
Having LCPL Landon White in my Explosive Dog Detection course was an honor, because I have never seen a more dedicated and responsible Marine up to that point. There was never a task that I presented to Landon that he did not give it 100%. As his instructor, we developed a bond and during his tenure in the Marine Corps, Landon continued to show the same dedication and responsibility that he showed me during his time in the Explosive Dog Detection course. He excelled while in the Marine Corps and this was evident by the recognition he received by his peers.
I have 39 years in public service, as a Marine, Atlanta Police Officer, Jackson Center Police officer and Chief of Police and as a Shelby County Deputy, where I was a deputy, detective, lieutenant, and I currently serve as their Chief Deputy and Sheriff Elect.
So, when I speak about a fellow law enforcement officer, I have seen and trained many. I have the knowledge and experience to pick the cream of the crop per say. Landon is the “cream of the crop” he has the knowledge, desire, compassion, and dedication as a law enforcement officer. Landon has the experience and this experience is extensive and well rounded, which makes him a great law enforcement officer and a great candidate for Office of Sheriff. I will not go into his experience because he has outlined that in his publications.
His knowledge and skill set in relation to the Office of Sheriff is second to none. Landon’s character speaks volumes as a person and a leader. I can say without equivocation that Landon White is the finest person, friend, and law enforcement officer I have had the privilege to serve beside.
Landon’s experience and performance has made him a good leader. Landon leads by example and by leading from the front, not the rear. Landon would not ask someone to do a task that he has not already done himself.
Landon is a veteran with over 30 years’ experience in law enforcement. He is very responsible and embraces the values a law enforcement officer should have. He is the type of leader who will take care of his employees.
A Sheriff has to take care of his people, if he does not take care of them, they cannot take care of you, the citizens. Landon will ensure the staff at the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Office is held to a higher standard, which you as citizens should expect. When Landon is elected Sheriff, he will ensure the office is transparent, by ensuring that the public knows what is going on regardless if it is good or bad. He will be fiscally responsible and ensure that your money is not spent frivolously by overseeing the budget.
I speak from experience, Landon will bring honor to the Office of Sheriff and make a Sheriff’s Office your proud of. Landon is a community servant, who is dedicated to the people he serves. He has the integrity, honesty, and the passion for the office of Sheriff.
I strongly suggest you elect Deputy Landon White as your next Sheriff of Ringgold County. When you decide who to vote for, look at “performance over promises” and make the right choice by voting Landon White.
