The Raiderettes suffered a tough loss to Southeast Warren last Tuesday, July 7 after the Warhawks got off to an early start with six runs in the first inning.
The Raiderettes stayed loud in the dugout, efficient on the field and determined at the plate as they put up their own four runs in the bottom of the third to bring the game within two runs.
By the seventh inning, the Warhawks were stalled at six runs, not having scored since the first and the Raiderettes sat at four.
With two outs and bases loaded, Abigail Barnes had a hit deep into right field, driving in one run.
Channler Henle stepped up to the plate for a chance to tie, or win the game, however, the ball came off her bat and bounced right into the ready and waiting Warhawk shortstop. The play was made and the Raiderettes fell 6-5, but the Raiderettes did not hang their heads in the post-game huddle.
Instead, the girls listened to the coaches words of wisdom and then spoke allowed, offering words of encouregment, along with the real test begins Wednesday with Nodaway Valley.
“We got beat early, they hit us hard,” said coach Ruggles. “We hit the ball very well tonight and our discpline at the plate was much better. Our talking was better, we are growing, we just need 10 more days and we don’t have that.”
Southeast Warren collected 14 runs on the night and six runs at the plate, while Alivia Ruble, the freshman pitcher, struck out five and allowed five runs on five hits.
The field behind the mount had 21 putouts, two errors and 31 total chances.
