To the editor:
The TNC, the Trump National Convention, wrapped up Thursday night with a long harangue touting the personal accomplishments of one Donald J. Trump.
I thought about how much I miss the GOP, the traditional Republican Party. The TNC, featured all of the immediate family, including second wife Marla Maples’, often ignored daughter, Tiffany. The TNC was all about the Trump’s and all of them spoke including Don Jr’s latest girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle.
Ms. Guilfoyle, who gave a rousing speech on the first night of the TNC, has been enjoying all the perks of being a Trump insider including a two day trip to Paris in 2018 that taxpayers like you and me paid for. This romantic getaway cost us $64,000 dollars and included a $1,000 dollar a night stay at a luxury hotel [no Motel 6 for them] near the Champs-Elysees.
Traditionally the Republican Party, the late GOP, followed a policy of low or reduced government spending. In the past, Republicans believed that the money collected and spent by the government belongs to the taxpayers. Since the Trump’s came to Washington, government purse strings have come undone and the Trump family has enjoyed an extravagant lifestyle at taxpayers expense including 133.8 million dollars for trips to Mar-a-Lago to play golf.
On Thursday night, Trump staged a White House extravaganza, in true reality star format, to accept the TNC nomination. With a huge backdrop of American flags, under which neither he or any member of his family, [grandfather, father, himself, and two adult sons] ever served, he gave a 70 minute acceptance speech.
What has happened to GOP pride in service to the country that past Republican leaders like Dwight Eisenhower, George Herbert Walker Bush, Bob Dole, and John McCain exemplified?
Now we have someone who thinks hugging the flag and nasty tweets constitute American patriotism and service. I meant it,
I really miss the GOP.
