Raiderette harriers take second in first meet of the year

The Mount Ayr cross country teams saw their first action of the year last Thursday in Corydon.
The evening started out with middle school runners, with Adan Trujillo taking the top spot in the boys race, leading the entire course. Quinn Coulson finished fourth, while Kacee Larsen finished 10th for the highest spot for the Raiderette middle school team.
Aubree Clarke was the second girl to finish, coming in at 14th.
The varsity girls ran well, placing second overall behind Chariton.
The girls were clumped together, running as a pack, being led by Karlie Larsen and MaKayla Jones finishing 12th and 13th.
MaKenna Jones finished right behind them in 14th. All three medaled.
Natalie Schaefer and Lauren Triggs were 17th and 22nd to finish out the top five for Mount Ayr.
All girls improved their times, however, Lauren Triggs lowered her time by over four minutes.
The Raider team does not have enough for a complete team, however, the Raiders improved their times.
Will Newton finished first for Mount Ayr coming in 35th, while Briar Knapp finished 37th.
Jarrett Webb finished the course in 71st and Ashtyn Benesh finished 88th to round out the Raiders.
“We had a great start to our season. Thanks to everyone that came over to cheer on the runners,” said coach Deb Larsen. “We ran as a pack, we have been working on this in practice an the girls did a great job. We are looking forward to watching these runners improve as the season progresses.”
