Mt. Ayr 3, Essex 1
Last week, the Raiderettes headed west to face the Essex Trojanettes on the volleyball court.
Essex, who was 0-8, played like a team with wins on the board, taking the first set 25-13 as the Raiderettes saw hits go out and little communication between teammates.
The next three sets would go to the Raiderettes as they won their second game of the year to improve to 2-1 on the season.
“We want to focus on being a family this year,” said coach Mariah Mason. “We are trying to be more cohesive.”
The Raiderettes began to look more cohesive on the floor after the first set loss.
“Our hitting was more solid,” said coach Kristen Graham. “We went back to basics. Alexa Anderson and Rachel Sobotka had an outstanding night.”
Anderson and Sobotka were a force at the net getting blocks and kills from the net.
No official stats were available at press time.
Unfortunately, the Raiderettes had a positive COVID test and will quarantine for 14 days.
They will be availble to be back on the court on September 15, missing Nodaway Valley, Pleasantville and Clarke.
