Harriers finish fourth at Leon

The Raiderette cross country runners saw another strong performance on a cold and dreary day in Leon last week.
Last Tuesday, September 8, the Mount Ayr harriers traveled to Central Decatur where they finished fourth overall with a time of 2:01:36.87, averaging 24:19.38 per runner.
The fourth place finish comes behind meet winner Chariton, who was followed by Twin Cedars and Central Decatur.
Pleasantville and Wayne came in fifth and sixth overall.
A total of 51 runners competed in the girls event, with Karlie Larsen breaking the top 10 for Mount Ayr.
Larsen finished ninth overall and first for Mount Ayr with a time of 22:19.74. Natalie Schafer finished 14th for the Raiderettes with a time of 23:15.53.
MaKayla Jones came across the line 15th with a time of 23:27.24.
Lauren Triggs finished with a time of 24:48.75, good for 24th overall.
Rounding out the Raiderettes was Alexa Smith in 39th with a time of 27:45.61, Madison Shields in 46th with a time of 30:34.23 and Andrea Sickels in 47th with a time of 30:34.64.
The Raider harriers saw Will Newton finish just outside the top 10 with a 13th place finish and time of 19:20.08. Briar Knapp finished 26th overall with a time of 21:31.33.
The boys were rounded out with Jarrett Webb finishing 51st with a time of 25:01.00 and Ashtyn Benesh with a 54th place finish and a time of 26:35.11.
Monday night, the cross country runners competed in Pleasantville. Times will appear in next week’s edition of the Record-News.
