What do we want in Southern Iowa?
Southern Iowa population continues to decline. Small towns continue to lose businesses. Community services are stretched thinner and thinner. What will our counties look like in 10 years?
We’re at a crossroads. We can continue to accept things as they are, or we can band together to reverse that trend. It’s going to take all of us working toward common goals. It’s going to require changes. It’s going to take leadership.
Our state leaders seemingly have little interest in us. From privatization of Medicaid that has hurt our local hospitals and cost the state much more to promising but failing to deliver on Broadband internet service to our farms and communities our current legislators have left us behind.
We need new leadership such as what Chris Adcock will bring as a new State Representative for District 24. She has the ability and the desire to bring life back into our rural communities. Her goal along with that of State Senate candidate, Joey Norris, is to bring quality internet service into our entire Southwest Iowa region. In doing so jobs will open up that before had to be in the larger cities because of our lack of service. Internet based businesses can find a home in the friendly confines of small towns right here in SW Iowa.
As this transpires people will move to small towns and even small farms while working from home with only occasional travel to corporate offices. Maybe even the corporations will see it makes sense to move here as well.
We’ve waited too long for something to happen. We have to make it happen. We can start by catching the vision for Southwest Iowa that Chris Adcock and Joey Norris advocate. We can vote for new leadership now and then step up and work together to make it happen.
