Mt. Ayr 44, Lenox 40
The Raiderettes hosted the Lenox Tigers last week and came out wit a narrow 44-40 win against their Pride of Iowa foes.
In what has become a theme for the Raiderettes, they began slow and finished with a lot of grit.
Despite a slow start, the Raiderettes led 14-9 after one quarter, before allowing the Tigers to come back in the second and make it a 26-24 game at halftime, in favor of Mount Ayr.
“We showed a lot of grit at the end of the game to hold on and win,” said coach Thad Streit. “I would still like us to pay attention to the fine details of the game, especially on the offensive end.”
Lenox outscored Mount Ayr 7-4 to take a third quarter lead, while also leading some of the fourth, before the Raiderettes battled back and took the victory in the end to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Leading Mount Ayr was Rachel Sobotka with 11 points and a perfect three-for-three at the freethrow line, while Channler Henle handled rebounds, taking 13 in total.
The Raiderettes held Lenox standout TJ Stoaks to 12 points, while Brooklynn Ecklin scored 11 in the narrow loss for the Tigers.

Mount Ayr tacked on another win to improve to 5-1 on the a short notice game change last Thursday after the game against Southeast Warren was moved from Friday night to Thursday night.
The Raiderettes prepared with a walkthrough and hopped on the bus after school to head to Liberty Center where they took a 12 point win over the Warhawks.
The Raiderettes, once more, started off a little sluggish, while also seeing foul trouble in the first half.
Southeast Warren led the Raiderettes 17-13 heading into halftime.
“We were plagued with foul trouble in the first half, but luckily our defense kept us in the game,” said coach Streit. “I thought we did some things really well at times, but we need to be more consistent.”
Coming out of halftime and beginning the second half, the Raiderettes implemented a full court press that saw plenty of steals and a 19-6 run on the Warhawks, completely disrupting any momentum they had.
The Raiderettes held the lead in the fourth to overcome the Warhawks for another Pride of Iowa win to improve to 5-1 on the season and 3-0 in the conference, just trailing Nodaway Valley for second.
Leading the Raiderette scoring was Rachel Sobotka with 14 points, followed by Maddie Stewart with 12.
Tegan Streit saw eight points on the board as well.
Sobotka also led the team in rebounds with eight, along with two blocks.
