Mt. Ayr 79, Lenox 57
The Raiders hosted the Lenox Tigers last week in a contest that put head coach Bret Ruggles, even with former basketball head coach Delwyn Showalter, in the wins column at 176 wins.
The Raiders outpaced Lenox 79-57 after a fast start that saw Mount Ayr leading the Tigers 20-10 after the first quarter of play.
Lenox attempted to square things up in the second, but went into halftime trailing 33-29.
Beginning the third quarter, Mount Ayr stepped on the gas and never let up, outscoring the Tigers 26-9, before finishing the night with another Pride of Iowa win.
The Raiders were led by Jaixen Frost with 23 points, followed by Erik Trujillo with 15 and Payton Weehler with 12.
Riley Maudlin led the team in rebounds with six, while also snagging three steals in the contest.
“We had some moments where we looked lethargic,” said coach Ruggles. “In the third quarter Jeff (Levine) made a good call to go back to our normal matchup zone and that bothered them.”
Coach Ruggles was impressed with the Tigers.
“This is a much improved Lenox team than we are used to,” said Ruggles. “Kudos to them. They moved it well and they hit shots. A few things we need to work on, but we are doing okay.”

Mt. Ayr 77, SEW 40
The Raiders finished out the week in Liberty Center on Thursday instead of Friday after inclement weather was predicted for the Friday contest.
The trip proved to not bother the Raiders as they overcame the Warhawks 77-40.
Mount Ayr outscored Southeast Warren 22-9 through the first quarter, and led 44-23 heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Raiders outscored the Warhawks 33-17 to take the win.
The Raiders were led by Erik Trujillo with 23 points, hitting nine-of-12 fieldgoals and five-of-five from the line.
Jaixen Frost was a close second with 19 points, hitting eight-of-12 buckets and sinking three-of-three from the line.
Cody Larson and Riley Stark had good games for the Raiders as well, scoring seven and six points, respectively.
The win improved the Raiders to 4-1 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in the conference, sitting them in second behind Martensdale-St. Marys.
The win was also big for coach Bret Ruggles, pushing him past coach Delwyn Showalter with 177 total wins for winningest basketball coach in Mount Ayr school history.
