Raider wrestlers hit COVID snag but look to continue success throughout season

The Raider wrestling team was dealt a blow recently, with multiple wrestlers not able to be with the team.
Mount Ayr was able to grab one win over Wayne on December 17, but fell to East Union and Nodaway Valley to drop to 5-3 on the season.
Against the Wayne Falcons, the Raiders only had one match.
Payton Fleharty defeated Jace Pipes by fall in 1:57, the rest were forfeit.
Mount Ayr won 36-18.
East Union defeated the Raiders by a score of 39-18 and saw a few more contests than the Wayne vs Mount Ayr bout.
DJ Islas (EU) defeated Deann Wyant by fall.
Milo Staver (EU) won by fall over Joshua West.
Bryce Shaha got the win over Tyler Tate (EU).
Haydn Walters (EU) defeated Payton Fleharty by a 12-7 decisioin.
Keaton White defeated Damon Hayes (EU) by fall in 1:06 and Braydon Swietlik defeated Louis Gonzales (EU) by fall in 34 seconds.
The Raiders also wrestled against Nodaway Valley, falling 48-18.
Wins for the Raiders included Bryce Shaha over Zackery Gebbie, Keaton White over Brandon Rassch and Braydon Swietlik over Tony Ayase.
Nodaway Valley saw wins with Elliot Cooney over Joshua West and Jaxon Christensen over Payton Fleharty.
Pride of Iowa
Tournament
The Raiders hosted the Pride of Iowa wrestling tournament on Friday, December 18.
The Raiders placed seventh overall with 81 points.
Martensdale-St. Mary’s, Bedford/Lenox and Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas took that top three spots.

The Raiders finished seventh overall with 81 points total.
At 113 pounds, Deann Wyant placed fourth overall after a fall to Christian Choate of Martensdale-St. Mary’s.
At 120 pounds, Mount Ayr’s Joshua West placed sixth overall, falling to Cody Morgan of Decatur.
At 126 pounds, Preston Fleharty fell to Colton Halterman of Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas to place sixth overall.
At 132 pounds, Bryce Shaha took the top spot on the podium with a first place finish after defeating Marthesdale-St. Mary’s Julian Huston by fall.
At 138 pounds, Payton Fleharty lost to Sampson Henson by 12-5 decision to place fifth overall.
Keaton White placed third overall at the 160 pound class. White defeated Andrew Kennan of Bedford/Lenox by fall after 4 minutes.
At 195 pounds, Braydon Swietlik took second place for Mount Ayr after defeating Tegan Carson of Central Decatur.
At 220 pounds, Chris Wyant fell to Dawson Marshall of Bedford/Lenox to place second.
The Raiders closed out the first portion of the season before heading to Grant City, Missouri on January 7 for the Battle of 169.
Mount Ayr hopes to return all wrestlers back to the team after winter break and have another run at the State Championship later this spring.
