Payton Weehler, a senior at Mount Ayr Community High School, recently committed to playing football at the University of Nebraska after graduating from high school this summer.
Weehler was offered a preferred walk-on which means they cannot offer financial assistance for at least the first year, but can earn a scholarship heading into their second year.
Weehler was recently named the Pride of Iowa Conference defensive MVP after the conclusion of the football season this past fall.
Weehler has helped lead the Raider basketball team to a 5-2 season as they head into winter break.
One of 12 players added in the early walk-on period, Weehler looks to use everything he has learned from his time in Mount Ayr to help the Cornhuskers achieve their goals.
The University of Nebraska is only a two hour drive west on Highway 2.
During Weehler’s signing day, friends and teammates filled the seats in the auditorium and applauded the senior leader for his selection.
