The Mount Ayr Raiderettes ended the season on a win after crossing the border into Missouri to face the Worth County Tigers.
Mount Ayr came out strong, leading the Tigers 14-3 before heading into halftime up 27-7.
Worth County came out of the gate in the second half ready to play and mounted a sizeable comeback that just wasn’t enough to catch the Raiderettes.
Mount Ayr would go on to win 54-37 and improve to 7-1 on the season.
Leading the charge for Mount Ayr was Maddie Stewart with 16 points, followed by MaKayla Jones with 11 and Channler Henle with 10.
Stewart, Alexa Anderson and Rachel Sobotka all had eight rebounds to lead the team, while Stewart led steals with five and Anderson had an amazing defensive game with four blocks.
Anderson also led assists with five.
The Raiderettes shot 46 percent from the field and 45 percent from the line.
In the steals-turnover part of the contest, Mount Ayr had 21 steals and 19 turnovers and played a fairly clean game with only six fouls.
“Man we played fast and aggressive,” said coach Thad Streit.
“We did a lot of nice things physically tonight. We rebounded, got steals, forced turnovers and only committed six fouls, but we lacked some mental aspects where we didn’t execute very well on the offensive end and lost their shooters too much. I think break has come at a good time to let us heal. We need to rest our bodies and our brains.”
The Raiderettes will return to action on the road against Seymour on January 4 at 4:30 p.m. before hosting number five ranked Nodaway Valley on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
