GERALD LEE SUMMA

Gerald Lee Summa, son of Lionel and Artela (Lowrey) Summa, was born March 17, 1936. Gerald’s family moved to Hollister, CA where he grew up and attended school. Gerald graduated from Hollister High School and attended a trade school. He worked for a short time at Rohr Aircraft. Gerald, with his family, moved back to Missouri.
Gerald married Bonnie Jean May on June 6, 1959. Gerald worked at various jobs, including Jacob’s Furs, before going to work for Ed Mercer at Dugan’s Conoco. Gerald, together with Bill Stull, became the proprietors of Dugan’s Conoco and operated it for many years. After Bill began working for M.F.A. Oil, Gerald continued to operate the business until “retiring” for the first time. Retirement didn’t last long, and Gerald went to work for Glendenning Motors servicing cars. Gerald had a faithful customer base that he continued to serve. Gerald would eventually retire from Glendenning’s.
Gerald served his community, and he served the Lord. He held various positions as an active and faithful member of the Mount Ayr Free Methodist Church. Gerald joined the Mount Ayr Fire Department in November of 1972 and was actively involved in the operation through July of 1990. Gerald loved to follow the Raider Football team.
