The year 2020 was an active year for the buying and selling of ag land in Ringgold County.
According to the most recent sales data from the Ringgold Count assessor’s office, 66 total transactions took place last year as compared to only 42 in 2019.
In all, 6,989.81 acres totaling $23,637,338 changed hands last year, for an average per acre price of $3,381.69.
The top six largest parcels sold covered 2,629 acres at a total cost of $9,565,000.
The largest single parcel was 840 acres in Athens Township at a cost of $2,734,299. This parcel was purchased by JC Agri-Business of Mesquite, Nevada.
The least expensive cost per acre came in a family transaction in Riley Township where 298 acres sold for $135,722 or $455 an acre.
Unlike last year, over half of owners of new transactions in 2020 stayed within 50 miles of the county. In fact, 26 of the 66 transactions remained in the hands of Ringgold County farmers.
Ownership of another 23 transactions remained in the hands of Iowa owners across the state, with only eight more coming from out of state, from places like Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Florida, and Nevada.
