Lenox 46, Mt. Ayr 35
The Raiderette basketball team traveled to Lenox last Tuesday, January 19 to face the Tigers.
The Raiderettes were without Alexa Anderson, a senior who has been playing her best basketball of her career, according to head coach Thad Streit.
Lenox took the lead early and didn’t look back, as senior McKinna Hogan led the team to victory, scoring 15 points with four three’s under her belt.
“They hit a ton of three’s tonight,” said Streit. “We weren’t expecting that. I thought our defense was pretty good, but they made outside shots and we got into foul trouble and missed inside shots.”
Hogan was assisted by Jynessa Cox and Cassidy Nelson, with nine and seven points, respectively.
“We weren’t looking for her,” said coach Streit. “We wanted to stop Nelson and Stoaks.”
Hogan failed to score in their first meeting over a month ago.
The Raiderettes were led by Maddie Stewart with 10 points and Channler Henle with seven, along with Rachel Sobotka, who also recorded seven.
As a team, the Raiderettes struggled at the hoop, shooting only 22.9 percent from the field and 4.8 percent from outside the arc.
The loss could have a Pride of Iowa impact later in the season as post-season assignments begin to come out.

Mt. Ayr 61, MSM 57
The Raiderettes took to the road once more, this time headed North to Martensdale to face Pride of Iowa foe Blue Devils from Martensdale-St. Mary’s.
The Raiderettes had a big lead throughout the contest, but a pair of injuries to Tegan Streit and Rachel Sobotka saw a big upset in the fourth, with Martensdale allowing only six points, while putting up 18 of their own, bringing the game within two points with seconds left in the game.
The Raiderettes were able to hold on and Sobotka was able to come back into the contest to help Mount Ayr get a 61-57 win.
Mount Ayr season leading scorer, Maddie Stewart was out but seniors Channler Henle and Sobotka stepped up big.
Henle had a few misses from three early in the game before finishing the contest with 21 points from her five three pointers and two buckets from the field.
Rachel Sobotka was six-for-10 to add 15 to the total, while also being a force under the bucket, recording 14 rebounds.
“We made a couple of crucial free-throws but had a couple of breakdowns on defense,” said coach Streit. “Channler and Rachel probably had their best games all year and with Maddie out we needed that.”
The breakdowns on defense came at the end of the contest when the Blue Devils battled back.
“It’s a tough place to play, foul trouble, injuries in the game, they did a nice job,” said Streit. “This win is huge. It’s like graduation, you lose seniors and you have to be ready to go. With injuries we needed girls to step up and they did and we got the win.”
The Blue Devils were led by freshman Brynnly German who scored 18, while senior Kylie Keller put up 11 and freshman Campbell German had eight.
