The Raider basketball team met the Nodaway Valley Wolverines on their home court last week and were unable to hold off the Wolverine attack late in the game.
The Raiders led Nodaway Valley in the first, 18-16, but the Wolverines outscored Mount Ayr in the next three quarters to defeat the Raiders by 13.
The Raider offense saw Jaixen Frost and Eric Trujillo score 16 and 15 points, respectively, while Riley Maudlin added eight.
It wasn’t enough to stop the hot hand of Toby Bower who hit seven-of-nine three-pointers on his way to 26 points, or Avery Phillippi who hit three-of-six from beyond the arc on his way to 23 points.
Combined, the rest of the Wolverine offense had 17 points.
The Raiders were 44 percent from the field, but only hit two-of-16 threes and went to the line five times.
The rest of the contest was fairly even as the Raiders rebounded 26, while Nodaway Valley grabbed 22 boards and the Raiders had 14 assists and Nodaway Valley had 16.
The Raider defense had six steals to the Wolverines seven.

The Raiders powered their way back in the win column against the Bedford Bulldogs last week, defeating their Taylor county rivals 57-38.
Jaixen Frost led the Raiders with 21 points, while Payton Weehler added 13.
Weehler led the team in rebounds and assists, with six in each category.
Frost and Braydon Pierson combined for 10 rebounds, five apiece.
The Raiders shot 43.1 percent from the field and were good on seven-of-16 threes and six-of-eight freethrows on the night.
Mount Ayr was able to hold Bedford to a 34.9 percent fieldgoal efficiency and allowed four-of-17 from the arc.
At the stripe, the Bulldogs were good on four-of-nine.

The Raiders improved to 15-4 on the season after a 75-47 victory over the Interstate-35 Roadrunners on Monday.
Going up 17-4 in the first, the Raiders didn’t look back as they continued to push their lead forward.
At halftime, the Raiders led 36-18. That lead deficit carried over through the third, however, with both teams scoring 20. The Raiders put their foot back on the gas to close out the game in the fourth, outscoring the Roadrunners 19-9.
Jaixen Frost stayed true to form, leading the team with 24 points, while Cody Larson scored 12 and Erik Trujillo put up 10.
Frost recorded four steals which tied the team lead of four with Trujillo, and also led the team in assists with seven, while also grabbing five boards.
Leading the rebound category was Cody Larson who grabbed six total, three offensive and three defensive.
