Mount Ayr recently advanced five wrestlers onto district wrestling for a shot at a State Wrestling Tournament appearance.
Trae Ehlen, Jaydon Knight, Bryce Shaha, Drew Ehlen and Jarrett Webb all traveled to Underwood for their district meet.
Four of the five wrestlers advanced to “The Well” after a day of hard-fought victories.
Bryce Shaha, Trae Ehlen, Jaydon Knight and Drew Ehlen advanced, while Jarrett Webb narrowly missed out.
Webb (113) fell in the semifinals to Zach Williams of St. Albert after 4:36.
Webb then lost out in the third place match to Milo Staver of East Union by a 10-1 major decision.
Drew Ehlen (106) lost to Eli Becerra of Missouri Valley in the semifinals by a 14-1 major decision but was able to wrestle is way back after defeating Dalton Smith of Riverside, Oakland by fall and taking second place over Brayden Maeder of Southwest Valley by way of a 6-0 major decision.
Jaydon Knight (152) defeated Kaedon Lindsay of West Central Valley by fall in 42 seconds n the semifinals before making quick work of Missouri Valley’s Ben Hansen, pinning him in 55 seconds to advance to State.
Bryce Shaha (132) became Mount Ayr’s third ever four-time State qualifier after defeating Hayden Fischer of AHSTW by way of a 6-1 decision.
Shaha ultimately lost out to Gable Porter of Underwood after a 10-0 major decision, but was able to qualify for state with a second place finish.
Trae Ehlen became the Raiders fourth ever four-time State qualifier after defeating Blaise Beane of West Central Valley by way of 11-0 major decision.
Ehlen then pinned Duncan Clark of Treynor in 52 seconds to finish first and move on to State.
Mount Ayr’s first ever four-time State qualifier was Brett Shields, followed by Cade Lambson.
Mount Ayr will wrestle at the State Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines on Thursday morning.
