The Mount Ayr golf teams traveled to Corydon for a night on the golf course against Wayne April 13. The cold, windy day made for less than desirable conditions for golf, however, the Raider and Raiderette athletes battled through it to produce good scores throughout.
The Raiders as a team scored a 223, while Wayne took first with a 184.
RC Hicks, of Wayne, medaled with a 40, while Mount Ayr’s Drew Ehlen scored a 46. The runner-up was Zeb Earling of Wayne with a 42.
Riley Stark scored a 53, Tony Daleske 55 and Keye Willis 69.
The Raiderettes saw Melaina Haley get the medal with a 46 and Emmalee Schafer take runner-up honors with a 51.
As a team, the Raiderettes defeated Wayne, scoring 203 to the Falcons 241.
Other scores for Mount Ayr included: Ally Shelley 53, Hallee Stewart 53, Mallory Weehler 60 and Linsie Barnes 62.
“Wayne’s golf course has a lot of iron play in it, so it was a really good experience for our kids to work on the short game,” said coach Bret Ruggles. “Our girls’ team had a very strong showing again tonight. Melaina scored well and was medalist, Emmalee Schafer was runner-up and Ally and Hallee both posted great numbers. That kind of consistency really helps with the team races. Our boys actually showed better numbers tonight, so it was great to see personal bests from Tony and Riley. Another great night on the golf course.”

Cadence Clark of Central Decatur shot a 64, while Alani Gibson of Martensdale-St. Mary’s shot a 64 to round out the top scorers of each team.
The Raiders came in third with a 243, while Martensdale took top honors with a 205 and Central Decatur scored 220.
Drew Ehlen was the medalist, shooting a 44, while Grant Ballard of Martensdale-St. Mary’s shot a 47. Matthew Boothe of Central Decatur shot a 49.
“We wrapped-up a tough week with three meets. The Raiderette group is really coming together and we are getting numbers from everyone that we can work with,” said coach Bret Ruggles. “As a collective group, we really need to keep working though, as we have a good chance and the conference race if we can bring the scores down a few shots here and there.”
