Raiderettes ‘run away’ with first meet win at Stuart

The Mount Ayr track team made the trip to Stuart last Thursday for the West Central Valley Relays. The night went smoothly before some rain came in through the night, but halfway through the meet the timer quit and stopwatches were brought out.
Raiderette Track Results
The Raiderettes had quite the night of performances that culminated in their first meet win of the season, while the Raiders brought home the bronze with a third place finish.
The Raiderettes scored 129 points to take home the gold, knocking out ACGC and West Central Valley who scored 111 and 74 points to round out the top three in a field of 10.
Addy Reynolds scored 32.5 points in total to lead the team, while Payten Lambert and MaKayla Jones scored 26 and 14.5, respectively, to help push the Raiderettes to the top of the podium.
Reynolds saw wins in the 100 meter, 200 meter and 400 meter.
In the 200 and 400, Reynolds and Lambert went first and second to combine for 18 points.
Lambert also added eight to the total with a distance of 14-05 cleared in the long jump.
MaKayla Jones saw a fourth place finish in the 3,000 meter run and later finished second overall in the 800 meter run.
Hope Whittington and Jill Kniep finished third and fourth, respectively, in the discus which added 10 points to the Raiderettes score.
Kaylie Shields, Karly Elwood, Maddy Stewart and Addy Reynolds competed in the 800 sprint medley and took first place with a time of 2:01.28.
The closing race of the night, the 4×400, saw the Raiderettes add another first place finish on the night with a team consisting of Anne Newton, MaKayla Jones, MaKenna Jones and Karly Elwood.
The Raiderettes beat out Van Meter by .6 seconds with a time of 4:39.1.

The Raiders finished third with 89 points, just two points ahead of CAM who finished fourth, while ACGC and Van Meter took first and second, respectively, with 132 and 126 points.
Leading the Raider points was Adler Shay with 15 points along with Ryce Reynolds who scored 13. Trae Ehlen and Erik Trujillo each scored 11 to round out double digit scorers for the Raiders.
Shay finished first in the 800 meter followed by Trae Ehlen in third for a combined 16 points.
Cody Larson finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 113-08.
Erik Trujillo scored four points for the Raiders with a fourth place finish in the long jump with a distance of 18-07.25.
Payton Weehler, Austin Cole, Seth Shelman and Erik Trujillo made up the second place 4×200 team with a finish of 1:37.
The team of Bryce Shaha, Adler Shay, Trae Ehlen and Erik Trujillo saw a first place finish in the 4×800 and the night ended on the 4×400 and the Raiders took another first place finish with a team of Erik Trujillo, Trae Ehlen, Adler Shay and Ryce Reynolds.
The girls traveled to Winterset Monday, April 26 where they finished fifth overall.
The Raiders hosted the Raider Relays on Tuesday, April 7.
On Thursday, April 29, both teams will head to Van Meter for a co-ed meet.
Results of those meets will appear in next week’s Record-News.
Entering May, State Track is right around the corner.
The Pride of Iowa Conference meet is May 3 in Leon, followed by the Raiderette Relays on May 6. That will also be senior night.
Mount Ayr track will then head to Central Decatur once more on the 10th to participate in the Central Decatur Co-ed meet before hosting the district State Qualifying meet on May 13.
The State Track Meet will be held at Drake University once more May 20-22.
