County COVID cases among lowest in Iowa

According to statistics compiled by the Iowa Department of Public Health by July 12, all area counties with the exception of Taylor County reported new COVID cases over the past seven days.

Ringgold County continues to rank among the fewest number of positive cases statewide since the beginning of the pandemic over a year ago.
At 577 total positive cases, Ringgold County trails Adams County with 353 positive results and Audubon County with 545.
In comparison, totals from surrounding counties include 1,374 in Union, 1,087 in Clarke, 690 in Taylor, and 659 in Decatur.
Death tolls in the six-county area have remained unchanged for the past several weeks.
In the battle to combat the spread of COVID, IDPH reports 2,038 residents of Ringgold County have been fully immunized against COVID.
All area counties reported slight increases in fully vaccinated residents over the past week:

Ringgold County Public Health will be following state health department lead on response for COVID-19 with a shift in focus from individual cases to outbreaks or vulnerable settings like long-term care facilities.
If diagnosed positive for COVID-19, your medical care provider instead of the local health department will educate you on practices to care for yourself and prevent further spread. Those who are positive will continue to be encouraged to have household members quarantine and notify close contacts to monitor for symptoms.
Medical providers continue to be required to report all lab results for COVID-19 testing. Ringgold County Public Health will continue to monitor virus activity and follow-up on any clusters or concerned settings and be available for review if any questions or needs arise.
The agency continues to offer vaccine as “the best defense against COVID illness, death, or long-term disability,” states Becky Fletchall, Nurse Administrator.
RCPH continues to offer COVID vaccination via walk-in appointment for those age 12 and up as well as scheduled appointments during our usual office hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mount Ayr Medical Clinic also offers Moderna vaccine for individuals age 18 and over and can be reached at 641-464-4470.
“We recommend getting vaccinated right away if you haven’t yet,” said Fletchall. “It has been proven nation-wide that higher rates of community vaccination result in lower incident rates of COVID illness. We are very grateful to those who have been vaccinated and we continue to increase the number of citizens vaccinated each week.”
