The Raiderette cross country team is showing signs of success early on in the season, with their latest showing coming at Central Decatur, where they finished second overall to Central Decatur, who finished first for the first time in school history.
Karly Elwood was the first Mount Ayr runner to cross the line this meet, finishing seventh overall with a time of 22:41, followed by MaKenna Jones in eighth with a time of 23:24.
Karlie Larsen finished close behind in 10th with a time of 24:01 to round out the top 10 for the Raiderettes.
Natalie Schaefer finished 16th with a time of 24:51, Lauren Triggs finished 18th in 25:37, Taylor Clymer finished 21st with a time of 26:36 followed by Aubree Clark with a time of 28:02 and Kyleigh Conklin with a time of 29:11.
Andrea Sickels finished in a time of 33:13 and Lilly Fuller finished ith a time of 49:20.
For the Raiders, Adan Trujillo finished 20th with a time of 20:06 followed by Will Newton in 23rd with a time of 20:28 and Ashtyn Benesh with a time of 27:30 for 63rd.
“Coming off of Labor Day weekend, you could see the effects of the extended, busy weekend,” said coach Dustin Larsen. “With that being said, it was still encouraging to see how we stacked up against the competition on this particular night and finish second.”
Will Newton ran his best time of the year so far, while Karly Elwood, Natalie Schaefer, Lauren Triggs, Taylor Clymer and Lilly Fuller also ran their personal best times this year.
“We are looking forward to these two weeks with one meet per week so we can focus on quality workouts and work on some things we have identified over these first three meets.” said coach Larsen.
On Monday, the teams traveled to Pleasantville where they saw a first place finish for Karly Elwood with a time of 21:26.00.
MaKenna Jones came in at ninth overall with a time of 23:43.00.
The Raiderettes saw Karlie Larsen and Natalie Schaefer finished 15th and 18th with times of 24:25 and 25:18, respectively.
The Raiderettes saw Aubree Clark finished 21st with a time of 26:53, Taylor Clymer in 23rd with a time of 28:13 and Lauren Triggs finish 25th with a time of 29:17.
The Raiderettes finished fifth as a team.
