The community Christmas tree will be lit following the conclusion of the lighted Christmas parade Saturday, December 4. The events are part of the annual Christmas in the Ayr celebration sponsored by the Mount Ayr Chamber of Commerce.
With the passing of Thanksgiving, the celebration of the Christmas holiday has shifted into high gear.
Toys for Tots
The Mount Ayr Lions’ annual Toys for Tots campaign runs now through December 16.
Boxes for toy donations will be placed at Dollar General, Great Western Bank, PCSB Bank, the Record-News office, and Rumors Bar and Grill.
Donated toys can be new or used if in good shape.
Ladies’ Night
“Twas a Ladies’ Night Before Christmas” will take place Thursday, December 2 from 4-7 p.m. in Mount Ayr.
The movie “Four Christmases” will follow at the Princess Theater at approximately 7:30 p.m.
To receive a ticket at the door, bring a canned food item or monetary donation to be presented to the Neighborhood Center food bank in Mount Ayr.
Dubbed a “night of shopping, friendship, and fun,” the event is a joint effort of Daily Flair Boutique with Essential Bodywear & Anchored by Design, Backwoods Barbie Boutique, Country Blossoms Floral and Decor, Aunt Jennie’s Attic, the Mill Coffee Bar and General Store, In The Ayr, rAyr Market, and United Farmers Cooperative.
Christmas in the Ayr
Titled “A Gingerbread House Christmas,” the annual Christmas in the Ayr celebration will take place Saturday, December 4.
Entries for the lighted parade with line up at the Depot Museum at 5:30 p.m. with the parade around the square getting underway at 6 p.m.
Parade prizes include the Best of Show traveling trophy for the best business or organization entry. Individuals, families, and friends entries will earn $50 in Mount Ayr money.
Following the parade comes the lighting of the community Christmas tree on the south side of the square at the Skelly Station.
Ryann’s Dance Academy will perform following the tree lighting.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will greet the kids through the drive-up window at U.S. Bank.
The Mount Ayr Public Library will offer a good view of the parade as well as some goodies and hot cider.
Great Western Bank employees will serve hot drinks and goodies as well.
Several Mount Ayr businesses will stay open late for shopping, dining, and entertainment.
Music throughout the evening will be provided by Ringgold Outdoor Alliance.
The event is sponsored by the Mount Ayr Chamber of Commerce.
Santa at Country Store
Santa will meet kids at the United Farmers Country Store from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, December 4.
Santa in Tingley
Santa, Mrs. Claus and the Grinch will be coming to Tingley Sunday, December 12 at 4 p.m. at the gazebo in the park by the Tingley Community Building. The Lions Club Drawing will be at 5 p.m.
