JOHN WILSON CLINE
John Wilson Cline, son of Wilson Ewing and Grace V. (Hill) Cline, was born November 15, 1929 on the century family farm near Export, PA. John grew up on the farm and loved being a three-generation caretaker of the land. John graduated from Franklin Township High School with the class of 1948. John farmed with his father before being drafted into the U.S. Army on December 30, 1954. John was honorably discharged on June 10, 1955 and served the next three years in the Army Reserves.
John met Margaret Louise Moore at a square dance and they were married in September 1957. To this marriage was born three sons: Dale in 1958, Darwin in 1961 and Dwight in 1963. John continued farming and in addition, he worked at Gibson Electric Machine Shop in Delmont for several years. John began as a postal carrier sub and eventually became a full-time city carrier for the US Postal Department.
Louise passed away on March 16, 2004 and John moved to Tingley, IA where he resided for the remainder of his life.
John was a quiet, humble man that loved his family and his country. He was proud of his time in the Army and a highlight of his life was going on the Honor Flight to Washington DC. He was an active member of the Ringgold Post #172, American Legion, in Mount Ayr. He loved dancing and attending the dances at the Legion. John enjoyed restoring antique tractors, or as he would call it, “putts-in”! John was an avid hunter in his younger years and always had an interest in guns, Lionel trains and certain coins.
John passed away November 22, 2021 at Greater Regional Health in Creston, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Louise; grandson, Joey Cline; daughter-in-law, Brenda (Pratt) Cline; grandson-in-law, Sean Glew; sisters, Sylvia Cline in childhood, Ethel (Bob) Cline of West Union, IL and Betty (Joe) Sauer of Verona, PA.
Survivors include his sons, Dale (Sharon) Cline of Kent, IA, Darwin Cline of Saltsburg, PA, Dwight (Judy) Cline of Saltsburg, PA; grandchildren, Shiloh (Anthony) Gennaro of Afton, IA, Cassie (Chris) Elyes of McKeesport, PA, Dallan Cline of McKeesport, PA, Jessica Glew of Delmont, PA; numerous great grandchildren; special friend, Leota “Pinky” Collins, of Creston, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services were at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 26, 2021 at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, IA
Officiating was Pastor Bill Armstrong.
Songs were “Peace In The Valley” and “Amazing Grace”.
Military Honors was the US Army Honor Guard.
Entombment was at Twin Valley Memorial Park and Chapel Mausoleum in Delmont, PA.
