Certified enrollments are an important topic of discussion in Iowa school districts due in large part in the amount of state financial aid to schools is based upon that enrollment figure.
According to the Iowa Department of Education, in Fiscal Year 22 school districts receive $7,227 per pupil in regular program state aid.
Decreasing enrollments, especially in small, rural schools, negatively impact district budgets in light of ever increasing operational costs.
