Kenneth Meryl McAlexander was born on the family farm in Percival, IA to Riley Fletcher and Ora (Paddock) McAlexander on August 7, 1928. He was greeted by brothers. Carl, Bob, Gene, and sister, Naomi. Later, he was joined by brother, Dale. Kenny passed away on December 29, 2021, at the Mount Ayr Health Care Center.
Kenny loved being around his family. He also had a passion for being a farmer. He worked on his farm all his life except for four years that he lived in Oregon. He was a quiet man, but he could carry on a conversation with anyone wherever he was.
Kenny graduated from Beaconsfield Consolidated School in 1945. While in high school, he met his soul mate, Virginia Lee Walters. On February 2, 1947, they were united in marriage at the Beaconsfield United Methodist Church. They enjoyed 74 years together. To this union was born, Jerry, Larry, Shirley and Deborah. Kenny had nine grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Kenny was a 4-H leader, MYF leader, little league coach, board member of the Beaconsfield Consolidated School, board member of Creston Swine Show, member of Beaconsfield basketball and baseball town teams and a member of the Beaconsfield Methodist Church.
Kenny will be greatly missed by his wife, Virginia, and children, Larry (Cathy) McAlexander of Prairie du Sac, WI, Deborah (Dan) Van Horn of Bloomfield, IA; daughter-in-law, Rosalie McAlexander of Beaconsfield, IA. He will also be missed by brother, Gene McAlexander; sister-in-law, Joy McAlexander; sisters-in-law, Jane Pallas and Peggy Christianson; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jerry McAlexander, and daughter, Shirley McAlexander; siblings and spouses, Carl and Marjorie McAlexander, Bob and LaVara McAlexander, Naomi and Don Johnston, Dale McAlexander; sister-in-law, Esther McAlexander.
Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr is in charge of the arrangements.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 3, 2022 at the Trinity Christian Church in Decatur, IA.
Officiating was Pastor Terry Roberts.
Musicians were the Hynek Family.
Special songs were “In the Garden”, “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”.
Casketbearers were Jeff McAlexander, Chris Jackson, Tim McAlexander, Pat McAlexander, Andy McAlexander and Jennifer Stephan.
Burial was at the Ellston Cemetery in Ellston, IA.
