Mt. Ayr 60, Seymour 24
The Mount Ayr Raiderette basketball team opened the new year with a decisive win over the Seymour Warriors Monday night.
“This is a nice win coming out of break,” said coach Thad Streit. “I thought we had quite a few steals, but also gave up some silly penetrations, and because of that we had some silly fouls.”
The Raiderettes combined for 18 fouls on the night, but were able to stay ahead of the Warriors with 28 steals and four blocks.
Out of the gate, the Raiderettes scored 15, while only allowing three to the Warriors in the first quarter.
The Mount Ayr defense never allowed Seymour to score in the double digits in a quarter, while they scored in the doubles in every quarter.
Leading the team in points was Maddie Stewart, with 15. Stewart was seven-for-18 from the field and recorded a team high eight steals.
MaKenna Jones had six steals on the night, along with Tegan Streit, and the team as a whole recorded 39 rebounds, that was led by Hayden Ruggles who had six total.
