SUSAN DIANE SCHAEFER

Susan Diane Schaefer, 71 years of age, passed away January 21, 2022. Susan was born June 3, 1950, to Glenn and Helen (Manchester) Campbell. She grew up on a farm south of Mount Ayr, IA with two brothers, Gary Leroy and Dennis Glenn, and one sister, Sheryl Ann.
Susan married Gerald Lee Schaefer on March 5, 1966. The couple lived in California while Jerry was in the Navy. To this union was born a son, Derald Dean, and two daughters, Dana Danelle and Danette DeAnn.
In 1974, the family returned to Iowa. Over the years, the family lived on two different farms north of Diagonal. In 1988, the couple moved to their current home in Creston.
Susan worked various office jobs in Creston and Des Moines before retiring and spending time traveling with Jerry.
Susan found joy in painting and in reading. She was a member of a book club in Des Moines and was attempting to write her own novel.
Susan had a kind heart and a loving smile. Her love for her family was grand and she enjoyed giving and receiving hugs from them all.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law, Maxine and Lowell Schaefer; sister-in-law, Donna Mae Campbell.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Jerry Schaefer, of Creston, IA; children, Derald and wife, Brenda, Schaefer of Diagonal, IA, Dana and husband, Warren, Evans of Bridgewater, IA, Danette and husband, Richard, Hoffman of Reinbeck, IA; 11 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; brothers Gary and wife, Jean, Campbell of Leon, IA and Dennis Campbell of Mount Ayr; sister, Sheryl and husband, Bob, Smith of Dexter, MN; brothers-in-law, Carl and wife, Yvonne, Schaefer of Okeechobee, FL, Kenny and wife, Cathy, Schaefer of Diagonal, IA, Mike and wife, Karen, Schaefer of Maloy, IA; sister-in-law, Kay and husband, Don, Jandreau of Weiser, ID; nieces, nephews and friends.
Per Susan’s wishes, there was a private gathering on Sunday, January 23 at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr before cremation occurred. She will be interred at a later date in the Veteran’s cemetery at Van Meter, IA. Online condolences may be left at www.armstrongfh.com.
