To the editor:
In November, a bipartisan infrastructure bill was passed in Congress. Our country’s ailing infrastructure has been in need of proper funding for years, and thanks to the yes vote from my representative, Cindy Axne, we will finally be able to invest in and repair our roadways and bridges.
Starting this January, we will see how that money will be spent on local projects in our state and in our counties. This historic investment in infrastructure will benefit Iowans for years to come. For too long, Iowa’s roads and bridges have been neglected and according to the American Road and Transportation Builders Association, Iowa is number one in the nation for unsafe bridges.
In fact, the American Society of Civil Engineers gave Iowa a C on its infrastructure report card. We have 4,571 structurally deficient bridges and over 403 miles of highway in poor condition in the state.
The infrastructure bill that Rep Cindy Axne voted for provides $3.4 billion for road and highway repairs and $432 million in bridge repairs.
This bill is what it looks like when our government comes together to solve problems and deliver solutions to the people. Thank you, Cindy Axne, for supporting it.
