To the editor:
Rob Sands recent review of the city’s “agreed upon procedures” revealed an ongoing issue that needs much more attention, in my opinion.
As a long time resident of this county, I find it appalling that these conflicts of interests still go unchecked in our community. I also find it very hard to believe that superintendent Mr. Wise (after 10 years of employment) was conveniently unaware of the $6,000 limit allowed during the fiscal year.
One can only imagine that now a closer eye will be kept on this so as NOT to draw more unneeded attention.
Whether it’s a series of smaller payments or one large purchase, are we to believe that Mr. Wise wasn’t aware of these continuous payments? Shouldn’t every business in the county/city have a fair and reasonable opportunity to conduct business with the city? Not just the council members Mr. Wise has befriended.
Perhaps, the statement made by city attorney is, in fact, correct, “If changes and improvements need to be made, they certainly will be.”
