Robert Dean Fisher, age 74, was born February 7, 1948, in Leon, IA to Arthur Arnold and Ruth Alice (Needham) Fisher. He left this life on February 10, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA.
Bob, as he was known, grew up and attended school in Lamoni, IA. While in high school he participated in cross country track, football and basketball. He graduated from Lamoni High School in 1967. Following graduation, he attended Humboldt Institute in Minneapolis, MN and studied air traffic and transportation. This was a two-year course condensed into nine months. On July 23, 1968, he was inducted into the United States Navy. He was serving on the USS Diamondhead at the time of his honorable discharge on April 1, 1970. Bob returned home and worked at E.W. Kneip Packing and on the Graceland College grounds crew. In 1971, Bob moved north of Lamoni to farm with his dad. Later he worked on the Emig family farm until retiring in 2009.
On February 14, 1997, Bob married his family friend and longtime girlfriend, Linda Lou Emig, in a private ceremony at Donn and Peggy Henson’s home. They made their home north of Lamoni.
Bob enjoyed raising cattle, watching nature especially clouds and birds and his Iowa Hawkeyes and Kansas City Chiefs.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his in-laws, Wayne and Helen Emig; and several cousins. Survivors include his wife, Linda, of nearly 25 years; brothers-in-law, Randall Emig of Corydon, IA and Rick Emig and wife, Robin of Knoxville, IA; nieces and nephews, Charles and Stephanie, Casey and Jennifer, Kitty and Ashley Emig; one great nephew, Caden; and other relatives and friends.
A private graveside service was held at Elk Cemetery, Lamoni, IA on Friday, February 18, 2022. Burial was in Elk Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Bloomington Community of Christ Church at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2022. Arrangements were through the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home, Leon, IA.
