Sam Stewart drives down the court after a steal against Graceland University.
Mount Ayr graduate Sam Stewart recently ended her second year on the women’s basketball team for the Peru State College Bobcats.
The Bobcats traveled to Lamoni where they faced the Graceland University Yellowjackets.
Stewart had a good sized crowd in attendance for her season ender with family, friends and former head coach Thad Streit catching the action.
The Bobcats defeated the Yellowjackets in the final second of the contest with the game tied with a late second bucket by Hailey Ingram.
Stewart contributed seven points and was five-of-six from the line and was second on the team in steals with four.
The Mount Ayr standout started 17 games this season, recording 273 points, 54 steals, 32 assists and spent 617 minutes on the floor.
“It’s been a good year and we have a good group,” said Stewart. “We are really young so I am expecting us to all be back for another good year.”
The team finished the season 12-16 this season, an improvement over their 6-16 season a year ago.
“She’s a special ball player and has a knack for things and is fun to watch,” said her former coach Thad Streit. “She had a couple of steals there that were back-to-back and she is just so fun to watch.”
