Governor Kim Reynolds recently announced the appointment of Alaina Whittington to the State Board of Education.
Alaina was selected from student applicants across Iowa. With 69% or 258 districts in Iowa with enrollments less than 1000 students, Alaina will be a strong advocate for small schools across Iowa. She is involved in multiple extracurricular activities and will bring a variety of perspectives to the position.
Ms. Whittington stated, “My experiences at the smallest school in Iowa are the reason I applied to be a student member of the State Board of Education, as my teachers constantly empower and encourage me to seek out leadership opportunities. I believe all public schools have the potential to support students in the same way, regardless of their size.”
