The City of Mount Ayr will be hosting a public open house for the Mount Ayr Community Pool project Monday, May 23 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Ringgold Outdoor Alliance building located at 104 E Monroe Street.
The purpose of the open house is to establish the need for upgrades to the existing community pool, propose potential design concepts for the public to review, and introduce possible funding strategies to support the overall project cost.
Community members will have a chance to provide input on proposed pool design concepts as well as speak with project team members. No formal presentations are planned; community members can stop by the meeting as their schedules allow during the posted meeting time. Food and drink will be provided for attendees.
The proposed improvements come from the findings of a pool study conducted for the city in 2020, as well as from feedback provided by members of the Mount Ayr Pool Committee.
The study examined current pool use, facility conditions, and community needs based on the results of a public survey, as well as a market analysis of Ringgold County and its current recreational amenities.
The study found that current pool conditions cost the city between $5,000 and $6,000 in water loss. The pool averages over 1,000,000 gallons lost annually.
Upgrading the community pool was also identified as a top priority in the last City of Mount Ayr Strategic Plan by residents and local officials.
