Raiderettes add four more wins before finding stiff competition

Mt. Ayr 11, Lenox 1
The Raiderettes added another win to the record last Tuesday, June 7, with a victory over the Lenox Tigers.
The Raiderettes started off strong, putting up five runs against the young Tiger pitcher, Delaney Funk, in the first inning.
The Raiderette bats slowed slightly in the ensuing innings, but Mount Ayr continued to add on, scoring six in the next four innings.
The Tigers mustered one run in the top of the fifth, but couldn’t find a way to break the Mount Ayr defense.
Addy Reynolds scored three runs in the victory, with one home run on the night.
Halsie Barnes recorded two runs on two hits, while Linsie Barnes scored two runs on one hit.
Zoey Larsen was in the circle for the Raiderettes, pitching all five innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out two.
The defense behind Larsen committed two errors, while recording 15 putouts with 24 total chances and seven assists.

Mt. Ayr 10, Earlham 7
The Raiderettes hosted the Earlham Cardinals for their annual doubleheader.
It was a long night for the teams with both games totaling just over five hours.
In game one, the Raiderettes won 10-7, through seven innings.
The Raiderettes took an early lead, putting two runs on in the first innings, before stretching the lead 6-1 in the third.
Earlham began to close the gap in the fifth innning, scoring four in the fifth before tacking on two more in the sixth.
The Raiderettes stayed infront of the Cardinals to win the contest.
In the win, Halsie Barnes and Linsie Barnes each batted in three runs, while Payten Lambert scored three runs on one hit.
Addy Reynolds was in the circle where she allowed seven runs on eight hits. Reynolds recorded three strikeouts.
Behind Reynolds, the Raiderettes committed three errors, while recording 21 putouts on 30 total chances with six assists.

In game two of the doubleheader, the Raiderettes won 9-6 after another battle of the bats.
The Raiderettes, again, started early added two runs in the first two innings, but Earlham took a one run lead after scoring three in the top of the first.
The Raiderettes tied the contest with a run in the bottom of the third.
The Cardinals stayed tied through the fourth and fifth, before a three run fifth gave the Raiderettes a lead.
Both teams scored one in the sixth as the Raiderettes went on to sweep the Cardinals.
The Raiderette bats were led by Tegan Streit who recorded three hits, one run and batted in two RBI.
Hayden Ruggles hit her first home run of her varsity career, while recording two hits, one run and batting in two runs.
“I was really focusing on hitting the ball because I’ve been struggling this year,” said Ruggles. “It was really good just hitting the ball.”
Ruggles is also the daughter of head coach Bret Ruggles.
“I get lessons every day, every hour,” said Ruggles with a laugh. “I love being around him.”
Zoey Larsen took up pitching duties for Mount Ayr, throwing all seven innings, while allowing six runs on 12 hits and striking out two.
The Raiderette fielders were perfect in the games with 21 putouts on 32 total chances with 11 assists.
“Sometimes when you come to games your defense gives you wins, your pitching gives you wins or your offense gives you wins. Today, our offense gave us two wins,” said coach Ruggles. “Our offense was fantastic today. We kept putting runs on the board. Not the easiest way for Mount Ayr softball, but that’s the way it worked out.”

The Raiderettes turned around and took to the road to head to Bedford on Thursday, June 9 to face the Bedford Bulldogs.
The Raiderette bats scored in every inning, except the fourth and sixth, with the biggest innings being the top of the seventh.
Bedford scored one in the bottom of the seventh to get on the board.
Zoey Larsen and Addy Reynolds shared pitching duties on the night, with Reynolds recording the win after pitching five innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out seven.
Larsen pitched two innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.
The defense behind the mound saw two errors, while recording 21 putouts on 31 total chances and eight assists.
The Raiderette bats were led by Linsie Barnes who saw four hits in five at-bats with one run scored.
Tegan Streit recorded three runs on two hits with one RBI.

The Raiderettes traveled to Griswold for the Griswold tournament where they faced Exira-EHK for the first contest of the day.
The Raiderettes scored early with one run in the first on an Addy Reynolds solo home run and enjoyed the lead into the second.
The Spartans took a three-run lead before the Raiderettes tied things up after putting up two runs in the top of the fourth.
Exira-EHK pushed two runs across the plate in the fifth to take the 5-3 lead that would become the final for the contest.
Addy Reynolds pitched all six innings for the Raiderettes, giving up five runs on seven hits and striking out four.
Behind Reynolds, the fielders committed two errors while recording 18 putouts on 28 total chances with eight assists.

Griswold 7, Mt. Ayr 1
The Raiderettes ended the week against the Griswold Tigers.
The Raiderettes and Tigers both scored one run in the first before the Tigers added six in the second to bring the final score to 7-1, in favor of the Tigers with the time-limit being reached in the fourth inning.
Zoey Larsen received the loss after pitching 1.1 innings and allowing six runs off three hits and striking out one.
Addy Reynolds came in as relief for 2.2 innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out two.
The Raideretttes committed two errors while recording 12 putouts on 21 total chances with seven assists.
At bat, the Raiderettes mustered three hits in 20 at-bats with one RBI.
Reynolds scored the Raiderettes only run after a base hit.
She was driven in by Tegan Streit.
“It’s a gauntlet and it’s just tough,” said coach Ruggles. “We will get better. We played good softball outside of two innings, one against Griswold and one against Exira. Our pitching was good enough to win today and our batting, unfotunately our defense got hammered.”
