The Mount Ayr Raiderettes hosted the East Union Eagles last week in a contest that seemed to stun the Raiderettes after the Eagles came out swinging.
The Eagles led the Raiderettes early, but the Mount Ayr lineup found their rhythm and was able to take the victory by 10-runs after heads-up base running and timely hits.
“For a senior night, this is what you want. One of our goals is to wreck senior night, but when it’s your own, you don’t let people wreck it” said coach Bret Ruggles. “Our girls played well and we hit the ball extremely well in the fourth and fifth inning. Every inning we kept getting a runner on and kept putting pressure on them, I was really happy about that.”
The Raiderette bats recorded an average of .414 throughout the contest, while scoring 13 runs on 12 hits with seven RBI and only one strikeout on the night.
Addy Reynolds knocked one out of the park over the centerfield fence for her sixth home run of the season.
Reynolds was also on the mound for the Raiderettes, striking out 10 batters and allowing three runs on four hits.
Behind Reynolds, the Raiderettes were perfect on the night with no errors, 18 putouts on 24 total chances and six assists.
