LINDA KAY KOHL

Linda Kay Kohl, daughter of Cecil and Inez (Marshall) Kneedler, was born December 27, 1943, in Afton, IA. While young, the family moved to various small towns in southern Iowa. She attended a small country school called Beerbower, just west of Winterset, where she walked to school every day. When she was little, she had diphtheria. This caused her to lose her hearing at a very young age and the entire family was quarantined.
From the country school, she went to Winterset School until she graduated in 1963. One summer, she helped detassel corn and ended up getting a very bad sunburn on her neck. It was so bad, she developed infection and was miserable until it healed.
Later, the family moved to Shenandoah. While there, she met a young man at the roller-skating rink, and they began dating. It was said that no one could skate like the two of them.
On September 18, 1965, Linda Kay Kneedler married William Arthur Young in a small church in Gravity, IA with her sister, Lavenia Stump, and her husband, Ernest Stump, as witnesses. From this marriage came two sons: William and Michael Young. Later the two divorced.
In 1981, Linda and the boys moved to Mount Ayr where she has lived for 41 years. Around 1985, Linda met Eugene Kohl and the two started dating. It wasn’t until November 1, 1991, that the two of them got married. They were married for 15 years when in 2006, Eugene suddenly passed away. During that time, the two played a lot of Yahtzee, Kings on the Corner and some fishing. She wasn’t too keen on fishing, but she went along for the ride. The two would go for a drive every night with her little dog, Cocoa, and pick up pop cans along the road. Later, she became entertained with her grandchildren, Kyle, Alexandra, Cameron, Kirsten, Courtney and Cenadie. All of whom she tried to love equally.
Her greatest enjoyment came from the games she played and the movies she watched with her grandkids. She loved scary movies the most. The kind that little grandkids would hide their eyes from at times.
